Process of sharing information between 2 or more people o o. Coming up with a message and sharing/receiving it. Sender shared means receiver = feedback. Can be reliant on speech or not o o o. Primary purpose is to provide and ask for information. Change of the structure of the oral cavity can change speech in significant ways. Consists of a socially shared code or set of conventions for presenting thoughts, ideas and beliefs through the use of arbitrary symbols as well as rule-governed combinations of those symbols. Uses arbitrary symbols: development of a word or a code for something is somewhat arbitrary o o. Example: her nephew and the coughing giraffe: we can teach in certain ways o. Subject, verb, subject: unfold in certain ways (filling in the blanks) o o o o. Always going to be a noun/verb/noun in english language. Generative: use is very flexible, not just repetition, we create our own thoughts in our words.
