PSYC 11762 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Informed Consent, Syphilis, Penicillin
Document Summary
Simply watching and taking notice of behavior as it is occurring. Watching and measuring what one is doing. Directly ask people questions to receive data/information. Example: poll - who should be the next president of the united states? . How much a psychological phenomena is occurring? . Pro: a foundation for psychology and research. Con: if we"re trying to make a link to the data and one individual than it is correlational, not descriptive anymore. Limited on conclusions we can draw based on the data we get. Tells us about the relationship between the two variables. Example: people are more aggressive when people are eating more ice cream. We can"t say that eating ice cream causes aggression. We can say that they are related. Explains the reason why people are more aggressive. Due to heat, people eat more ice cream. Can tell the strength of a relationship. 0 = weakest correlation (no correlation; the 2 variables in no way relate)
