Northwestern corner of town: this is another old section of town. It is primarily a residential section of town, and many of the houses date to the samnite period. House of the faun: the largest house in the whole city of pompeii is the spacious, the house seems to have originally been two separate houses that were combined after. It is an excellent example of aristocratic opulence. the owner purchased his neighbor"s property: the house indeed demonstrates a great deal of doubling up of major rooms in the house. There are two entrances, two atriums, and two peristyles: the house also has its own set of baths on site. It is called the house of the faun because of the bronze statue in the water basin in the atrium of a faun, a deity that was half goat and half human. House of the vettii: one of the most beautiful houses in pompeii.
