Sometimes we consider how well the artworks reflect the societies in which they were created. This plaque containing the figures of a warrior and his helpers is from the benin culture of. This relief sculpture once decorated the king"s palace. The king of benin is shown in the center, flanked by two soldiers. Edward hopper, early sunday morning, 1930, oil on canvas, 35 x 60 . Hopper"s painting expresses some of his feelings about his american society. Purse cover, 7th century, gold, garnets, glass and enamel, 8 inches wide.
