Mendel"s research and revelation, evolution is caused by 1 or combo of 4 forces, chromosome/ dna research. Descent with modification = theory of evolution. Species: group of related organisms that can interbreed and produce fertile, viable offspring. Adaptations: physical characteristics that enhance an organism"s ability to survive and reproduce. Adaptive radiation: diversification of ancestral group of organisms into new forms adapted to specific environmental niches. Uniformitarianism: natural processes happening today also happened in past. Catastrophism: after each catastrophe, region is vacant and repopulated by different group moving from somewhere. Lamarckism: inheritance of acquired characteristics in which offspring can inherit traits acquired in parents lifetime. Blending inheritance: parents gemmules intermingle to form characteristics of offspring. John ray: introduced terms species and genus. Carolus linnaeus/ carl von linne: binomial nomenclature. Included humans in classifications implying we aren"t as special as church implied. Comte de buffton: external environment can cause species to change.
