PSYC 1101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Axon, Uch, Acetylcholine
Document Summary
Biological psychologist: explore the association between the body, mind and spirit. Brain uses electorial and chemical processes to take in, organize, interpret, store, and use info. Small amount of neurons come from sensory organs or carry messages from neurons to muscles to make the body move. Dendrites: receives info from other neurons and conduct toward the cell body. Axon: passes the messages away from cell body to other neurons, muscles or glands. Myelin sheath: insulates the axon and helps to speed the neural impulses. Synapse: junction where the tip of one nerve fiber almost touches another to transmit various signals. Neurotransmitters: fundamental to behavior, including emotions, mood, hunger, mental health, etc. Acetylcholine: involved with the transmission of muscles and nerve impulses. Norepinephrine: controls alertness, arousal, increases blood pressure, rate and depth of breathing. -if a(cid:374)y (cid:374)eurotra(cid:374)s(cid:373)itter does(cid:374) t (cid:449)ork or gi(cid:448)es to (cid:373)uch the(cid:374) it ca(cid:374) result i(cid:374) (cid:373)uscle failure.
