Document Summary
Computers perform four basic functions: input, processing, output, and storage. In order to perform these functions, computer hardware and computer software must work together. Together, the combination of hardware and software are referred to as the computing platform. Computers can only communicate in binary- ones (on) or zeroes (off). Base 2 is an alternate way of expressing numbers. 375 (3) hundred (10^2= 100) (7) tens (10^1=10) (5) ones (10^0=1) 101 (1) fours (2^2 = 4) (1) twos (2^1 = 2) (2) ones (2^0 = 1) Boolean logic- used to design the components in computer processors. Binary numbers- the number of all electronics. In binary, each place (bit) represents how many groups of 2 you have- instead of groups of 10. So 10100100 in binary equals 164 in decimal. So 01110000 in binary equals 112 in decimal. In computers and other digital devices, bits are normally grouped in sets of eight. Eight bits grouped together is called a byte.
