Class 1:chapter 17: the united states, prewar (1860) civil war:61-65. Every big city in the country is in the north east, very little industry in the south. Because no money to spend in the south, only north: war ends: the 13th amend is rati ed, abolished slavery. The capital equipment in south, the economic system is totally destroyed in the south. South had to be reconstructed, basically become part of the us. Southern states conformed confederacy, had to swear allegiance to the constitution, before they could become part of the usa: to oversee reconstruction: president johnson and congress has responsibility over this. People in north had problem with johnson because he is a democrat and because he is from the south. Before lincoln died, he had a plan to bring southern states back into the union, (10% plan). Only 10% of the state had to swear allegiance, but congress said no: congress said (50% plan) had to swear allegiancewade-davis plan
