Document Summary

Chapter 1 matter, measurement, and problem solving. Chemistry is the study of the nature, properties, and composition of matter, and how these undergo changes. It plays an important part in all of the other natural sciences, basic and applied. It is a systematic approach used in scientific studies. It is an organized process used by scientists to do research and it provides a method for scientists to verify the work of others. Scientific law (i. e. law of conservation of matter--lavoisier) Is a law when many scientists come over and over again to the same conclusion about certain relationships in nature. Is an explanation that has been supported by many, many experiments. It sates a broad principle of nature that has been supported over time. All theories are still subject to new experimental data and can be modified. The theory is considered successful if it can be used to make predictions that are true.
