PSYC 211 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Trans Woman, Cisgender
Document Summary
Heterosexual women"s support for trans-inclusive bathroom legislation depends on the degree to which they perceive trans women as a threat. The goal of the study was to examine if for heterosexual cisgender women perceived intergroup threat moderated the effect of exposure to legislation enabling trans women to use women-only bathrooms (vs. legislation expanding gender-neutral bathrooms) on bill support. Both of the bills were labelled as house bill. The quali er question was what is your gender? only accepted people who self identi ed as "female". Participants had to be in the united states and be heterosexual. The sample consisted of 245 participants who self-identi ed as heterosexual women (mage = 36. 93 years, sd = 11. 32) They expected support for house bill 219 to be signi cantly higher among heterosexual women exposed to information about expanding gender-neutral bathrooms, compared to those exposed to information about trans women being able to use women-only bathrooms.
