Nation-states- founded in europe in 1648, established with the treaty of westphalia (established a legal basis of the nation-state, 1648) . That the world order is organized into exclusive political: territoriality- communities. Not competing powers the state itself has legal power to govern. The state has a monopoly on the use of force. No ruler has the right to intervene in the sovereign affairs of another: autonomy- ** in all states of war, nation-states are challenged** 6 main bodies- have different decision making powers a general assembly; discusses issues decision= non-binding. The security council- composed of five permanent members- china, france, Russian federation, u. s, & u. k + ten non-permanent members that are chosen on a rotating basis.
