Document Summary

What components are important for protein vs. cho vs. lipid? (e. g. , bile is not required to digest proteins. ) Amino acids are linked together via peptide bonds. When a meal is consumed, gastric cells release the hormone gastrin, grp and histamine which enter the blood and induces the secretion of gastric juices. 1. Gastric juice contains hcl which denatures proteins and converts the inactive pepsinogen in chief cells to pepsin, which works to hydrolyze peptide bonds, aiding in the breakdown and digestion of proteins. The action of pepsin leaves the end products of large polypeptides, some oligopeptides and some free amino acids which then enter the small intestine. 1. In the small intestine, partially digested proteins induce the release of secretin and cholecystokinin. 1. These hormones signal the pancreas to secrete pancreatic juice into the small intestine. This secretion contains bicarbonate, electrolytes, water and zymogens.
