Adults who sleep 7-8 hours have a lower risk of mortality than those who sleep fewer than 7 or more than 8. Sleep debt is created if you get less than 8 hours. Sleep is not one size fits all. Varies according to age, gender, and many other factors. Naps don"t cancel out sleep debt but it does help. Plan to eat dinner 3-4 hours before bed. Insomnia symptoms include difficulty falling asleep, waking up frequently during the night, difficulty returning to sleep, waking up too early, unrefreshing sleep, daytime sleepiness, and irritability.
