Among the oldest is the rig veda- about 1000 hymns and poems- themes of sacrifice. Among the youngest- upanisads- about 200 written in prose- internalized sacrifice to become integrated: longer stories. Mahabharata- intensely personal god- human wellbeing: end of epic- sacred language (sanskrit) begins to die out. Bhakti- most wide spread form- love, devotion, worship- capacity for ordinary person to have access to the scared: political, religious, and etc. forces of europe.
