Psychology are interested in how social situations influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Collective group= three or more people engaged in common activities, but having minimal direct interaction. Group= three or more interacting persons who share a common goal, having a stable relationship, are somewhat independent, and perceive that they are part of something larger than themselves. The presence of others can enhance performance (social facilitation) or it can hinder performance (social inhibition) Well learned task leads to facilitation with an audience and new not rehearsed skills leads to inhibition with an audience. Social loafing= people tend to expend less effort on collective tasks than they do when performing the task alone. Working in a group and slacking off because they feel like their contribution will not be recognized.
