Document Summary

Statistics plays an extremely important role in many aspects of economics, natural sciences, humanities, and many other disciplines. In chapter 5, we briefly explore some important descriptive statistics in section 5. 2. 5. 3, we use these statistics to analyze a common distribution known as the normal curve. Tells us the average value of the experiment. Tells us how much the data varies from the average value. In order to calculate these two pieces of information, we need to know what the experiment is trying to measure (i. e. the variable of the experiment) For every possible outcome of an experiment, a number can be assigned. This number represents whatever we are measuring or trying to keep track of in the experiment: the numbers that are assigned to each outcome of an experiment are referred to as the values of the random variable (x) If (cid:449)e roll a die three ti(cid:373)es, (cid:449)e (cid:272)ould keep tra(cid:272)k of ho(cid:449) (cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:455) ti(cid:373)es a (cid:858)5(cid:859) appears.
