Nuns were the head of hospital management until professionalization in 1960s 1980s: hospital needed to be run like a business by trained professionals in healthcare management, technology was advancing, practice of medicine was being specialized, have a greater number of physicians and a need to practice. The nurses started a system and discipline which brought to patient care: this led to the start of nursing schools, started training in a hospital, nurses are trained in universities now, factors shaping the hospital industry, private insurance. Ucla roemer"s law: a bed built in a bed fill"t (filled, quality and cost will get worse, aggravated cost, more people being hospitalized, provided more products and services. Federal government stepped in & passed the act where they provided financial assistant to the communities to rebuilt the hospital infrastructure in these communities: option 1: built new hospital, option 2: replace, option 3 : add on/expand/ renovate, lack of the same service.
