SOC 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Anna J. Cooper, Harriet Martineau
Document Summary
Describe how marginalized voices contributed to sociological theory. The voices that were privileged at the time were of those who held most of the power in society. By now recognizing the contributions of those who were not heard at the time, we gain insight into the way society viewed people of different genders, social classes, and ethnicities. This theme of exclusion and oppression of the weak is as relevant to classical theory as it is for every topic area in sociology.
