Racially prejudiced views provide a moral justification for the maintenance of an unequal society that routinely deprives minorities of their rights and privileges. Racist beliefs discourage the subordinate minority form questioning their status, which would question the foundations of society. Racial myths encourage support for the existing order by arguing that societal change would further impoverish minorities and lower the majority"s standard of living. Therefore, prejudice grows when the value system is threatened. A society that practices racism fails to use the resources of all individuals, since it can"t generate talent. Discrimination aggravates social problems such as poverty, delinquency, and crime, and places the financial burden on the dominant group. Society must invest a lot of time and money to defend its barriers to full participation of all members. Racial prejudice and discrimination often undercut diplomatic relations between nations. Exploitation theory: exploitation of the lower class is a basic part of capitalism.
