Children have right to high quality treatment. Professionals in field have many roles: psychology, psychiatry, social work, special ed, pediatricians. Must work with families to work with children. Therapeutic alliance must align with family and child to understand treatment gains. Multiple family therapy 10 weeks, families in group sessions, child and parents separate for part of therapy and together for part. Each week has a different theme sharing experience, group participation, validation of experience etc. Must engage with children at a level that they can understand and enjoy, while learning. Framework: in order to explain, investigate, treat psychopathology we must have a framework for conceptualizing aspects of psychological disturbance in children. Normal behavior: approach uses normal development to know about abnormal development.
