PSYC 5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Sildenafil, Orgasm, Urethra
Document Summary
Up until the dcm 5 in 2013, our idea of what is normal during sexual functioning is based on the studies done by masters and johnson. Four stages of sexual response: excitement, plateau, orgasm, resolution, the stages will vary in duration, but generally speaking, orgasm is the shortest stage, bodies always go through the stages in this order. Two basic physiological processes that occur during these stages: vasocongestion: congestion of the blood vessels, myotonia: muscular tension. Testosterone is the hormone responsible for sexual desire in both men and women. Viagra (pde 5 inhibitors) don"t make an man desire sex. The man has to be sexually interested and sexually stimulated. Viagra prevents the smooth muscles from going from dilated to contraction. During the excitement phase, the blood rushes into the corpus cavernosum and the spongy body, which causes vasocongestion. The smooth muscles are muscles in the penis around the arteries. The penis cannot be broken, but the albuginea can be injured.
