Document Summary

From birth, parents track girls and boys on different tracks, fostering dependence for girls and independence for boys. By ages 2-5 yr olds boys show increased preferences for rowdy behavior and fathers tend to reward sons for rowdy behavior. Boys and girls gradually pull away from each other (due to rowdy behavior) While boys get increasingly rowdy, girls get increasingly social and verbal. Parents give girls and boys different rooms, clothing, toys, etc fostering different behavior. Girls are trained to talk and think more about their emotions than boys (esp. sad emotions) Boys are not taught to talk & think much about their emotions (esp. fear) Parents = role models for different behaviors, kids imitate. Many males are raised to want to save the world (or make some great contribution) These different ender roles take males and females in very different directions in life sometimes impeding close male and female relations.
