Document Summary

Explain the three key elements of motivation. Persistence: measures how long a person can maintain effort, continuation of commitment towards our goal. Intrinsic motivation: goals consistent with interests and core values, need for autonomy, people seek ways to achieve competence and positive connections. Extrinsic motivation: (money, status, or other benefits) are less likely to attain their goals and be less happy even when they do achieve them because the goals are less meaningful to them. What are some of the key ideas behind main theories of motivation we looked at including expectancy theory, herzberg"s hygiene factors vs. satisfiers, goal setting. Expectancy theory: the strength of a tendency to act in a certain way depends on the strength of our expectation of a given outcome and its attractiveness. Expectancy is a confidence an outcome is achievable (e. g. i have the abilities needed to get the job).
