ANTH 2 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Strepsirrhini, Orangutan, Pair Bond
Document Summary
Non human primates live in different kinds of mating system and we can also categorize them this way. Monogamy- gibbons, titis: 3% of all mammals, 16% of all primates, monogamy= a pair bond, don"t necessarily stay together for life, social monogamy (when a couple live together for a mating season) vs. Reproductive monogamy (when a couple only mate with each other- less common) Polyandry (when one woman lives with many men) These are the lower primates so they don"t exhibit some of the traits that we characterize higher primates with. Most species nocturnal (some lemurs are social and diurnal however) Africa (lorises and galagos), madagascar (lemurs), and asia (lorises and tarsiers) Vertical clinging & leaping (vcl) they move in their own special way and have long legs. Galagos- small animals, long bushy tails, adorable, common in many forests in africa, make a wailing sound like a baby (why they"re called bush babies)
