Examine the concept of criminal careers & discover what the available crime data can tell us about the onset, continuation, & termination of criminality. All other crimes not included in part 1 crimes. When at least one individual is arrested, changed, & turned over to the court for prosecution. By exceptional means, when some element beyond police control precludes the physical arrest of an offender. Only the most serious crimes are reported. Fails to differentiate between attempted and completed crimes. Many crimes are not reported by ucr. Sampling: selecting a limited number of people for a study as representative of a larger group. Population: all people who share a particular characteristic. Includes information regarding victims, offenders, & crimes. Fewer than half of all violent crimes are reported. 1/3 of all property crimes are reported.
