She studies where we put prisons, relationship between space and policy. Question of what are incarcerated places, what does it mean where there are places where people are intensely controlled but not in movies. She mentioned the idea that cities that want prisons, racial demographic and class demographics of a place are changing, gentrification, hoping to use projects to try to help change the demographics of a community, bring jobs, diversity, etc. But at same time it could be bad, it could make living cost higher. Broken window policing - in ny, la 1980s, that if u have a place where it is clearly run down (broken window), people will be more incentivized to commit crime. So if u can fix up this, fix up infrastructure, people be less inclined to commit serious crimes. Thinking of how the state has power over us, even if it is not inside the walls of a prison.
