Average age of giving birth has increased, which could lead to increase in complications. C-section births are approximately twice as profitable for hospitals. Refusal by some hospitals and or insurance companies to offer informed choice of vaginal birth (vbac) Casual attitude about surgery and c-sections in general. Limited awareness of risks associated with c-section. Procedure used to speed up uterine contractions during pregnancy before labor begins on its own. When successful leads to a vaginal birth. Carries some risk including infect and the need for a c-section. Pre-existing maternal or baby health condition such as heart condition, seizure disorder, congenital condition, etc, that can benefit from a controlled birth environment. Lack of conception by a heterosecual couple after 12 consecutive months of trying to become pregnant having regular, unprotected intercourse.
