A family is any two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together. Family is a group of people who love and care for each other. Two or more people who are committed to each other and who share intimacy, resources, decision-making responsibilities and values. Families in all their remarkable diversity are the basic foundation of human cultures. Early childhood (2 to 6 years old) Middle childhood (6 through 11 years old) Young/emerging adulthood (20 through 40 years old) Middle adulthood (40 through 65 years old) Development = growth and change over time: makes an individual better adapted to the environment, proceeds from relatively simple and global to the more complex and specific, relatively enduring. To describe what people are like at different ages and how they change as a result of age. To predict what an individual will be like at a later point in development.
