Document Summary

The number of individuals a population can hold. A biological community is a group of populations of different species living close enough to interact. Community ecology is the study of how groups of species interact and form functional communities. One species can alter the survival of another species. Ants stir up insects while hunting, while ant birds tag along and benefit by eating the insects the ants stir up. Exploitation competition- organisms compete indirectly through the consumption of a limited resource. Interference competition- individuals interact directly with one another by physical force or intimidation. Niche= the sum of a species" use of the biotic and abiotic resources in the environment is called the species" ecological niche. If two species utilize: the exact same resources, at the exact same time, at the exact same place then one of them will go extinct. Therefore two species that are found together do not have identical requirements.
