ACCT 498 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Peer Pressure, Critical Thinking, Blackboard
Document Summary
Assignment 1 handed out: critical thinking. Mechanics: find critical thinking tasks, rubric on blackboard, number of pages is up to your judgement on your choice of topic. Traditional ethics focus on what people should do. However, the field of behavioral ethics explores what people actually do. Much ethics conduct that goes on, whether in social life or work life, happens because people are unconsciously fooling themselves. Reasoning processes: researchers have found that we actually have two different reasoning systems in the brain, and sometimes we use the wrong one, system 1 reasoning process. Automatic, mostly unconscious, fast, intuitive, and context sensitive. Social in nature and is an evolutionary adaption like our fight-or-flight instinct. Comes into play when we make quick routine decisions like watching for traffic when crossing the street or moving away from signs of danger: system 2 reasoning process.
