Newcomer program: specialized instruction for a limited period of time, used to provide short-term, intensive, highly-tailored instruction for ells. Developmental bilingual education: utilizes both english and their first language, separation of languages for different subjects, equal status of both languages. Foreign/second language immersion: students who come to school speaking english, 50-100% of foreign language is spoken for academic instruction.
