Document Summary

Went over more examples of positive and negative reinforcement and punishment. Fixed ratio schedule: after a certain number of times, the punishment or reward takes place. Fixed interval schedule: after an amount of time, punishment or reward takes place. Variable interval/ratio schedule: after random number of times/minutes, punishment or reward occurs. Ex: give time-out after 4th time kid gets out of seat (fixed ratio schedule) Ex: kids get candy for staying in their seat every fifteen or so minutes (variable interval) More operant conditioning-shaping reinforces little steps towards a big behavior. Reinforcement and punishment is the best combo (ex: start when a puppy goes pee in the house, scold it, let it go in the grass and give it a treat) If no reinforcement occurs, the behavior will eventually disappear. You will have to identify and remove all reinforcers. Ex: drug addicts might get approval from other users(+), use it as a release for stress(-), take away withdrawal symptoms (-)
