Document Summary

Outline: prokaryotic vs eukaryotic, basic requirements for cellular reproduction, mitosis, meiosis, implications of meiosis on sexual reproduction. The only way to give each daughter cell a nucleus exactly like the one had by the mother cell is to replicate the one mother nucleus into two- one for each daughter cell. Since the nucleus contains the genome, this dna must be copied as well. Prokaryotic cells replicated but don"t do mitosis or meiosis. Just wrap it up and make it compact. -different species have different numbers of chromosomes and more chromosomes by no means correlates to greater complexity. -most eukaryotes have 2 sets of chromosomes one set from mom and one set from dad. This results in most euks having an even number of chromosomes. Chromosome 1 that mom gave is similar but not identical to chromosome 1 that dad gave. They contain the same genes but have different alleles.
