Document Summary
A break in the continuity of the bone which occurs when the bone suffers greater stress than it can bear. Whenever your bone has too much stress that it cannot normally bear, it will break. Complete broken through and through; whole bone is broken. Incomplete greenstick; seen in children (they have cartilage); like twig or also called hairline when it has lines in it. Open bone is broken and it came through the skin; major problem infection. Closed bone is broken but the skin is intact. Greenstick bend sideways and it has little twig parts; usually seen in children. Transverse fracture that goes through and through across the bone. Oblique fracture that is diagonal across the bone. Spiral looks like candy cane; oblique and wraps around. Caused by torsion and twisting; seen in domestic violence. Depression bone is just pushed in or dent in the bone. Comminuted lots of pieces/fragments in the fracture.
