Types of disorders: externalizing problems not able to control their behaviour. Adhd, odd, cd: internalizing problems becomes more of an emotional problem. Separation anxiety disorder, selective mutism, reactive attachment disorder: attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Previously called minimal brain dysfunction, hyperkinetic syndrome of childhood. In 1987 dsm3-r renamed it to adhd and added 2 new features: functional impairment, present before age 7. Persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity: 6 symptoms for 6 months. Hyperactivity and impulsivity: 6 symptoms for 6 months. Several symptoms of either 1 or 2 present before age 12. Several symptoms present in more than one setting. Clear evidence that symptoms interfere with or reduce quality of social, academic functioning. Symptoms do not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia and are not part of another mental disorder. Adhd predominantly inattentive (adhd-i: includes problems with listening, learning, remembering, organization and motor control (messy writing, eating) Adhd-h and adhd-hi include problems with talking too much, interrupting, moving, fidgeting, more reacting.
