Excessive or absence of testosterone can affect gender identity. Psychoanalytic theory gender identity problems arise from a boy"s failure to separate from the mother and develop an independent identity. A monozygotic twin had a botched circumcision and parents were convinced to surgically reassign the boy as a girl. He was given hormone treatment during puberty to develop secondary sex characteristics. Some use this to claim gender identity is something we learn when we are young. Follow up showed he was very masculine in adolescence: was devastated when he found out the truth, became a male in adult hood got married and committed suicide in 2004. Most transvestites are heterosexual: sexual sadism and masochism. Sexual sadism sexual preference towards inflicting pain or psychological suffering. Sexual masochism enjoy experiencing pain or humiliation from another individual. Some people stay in one role while others like to switch: exhibitionistic disorder sexual arousal from the exposure of one"s genitals to an unsuspecting person.
