Y is the dependent variable the level of aggression: operational definition precise definition of how the dependent variables will be measured in the experiment so people can replicate it, ex: define how you measure aggressive behavior. Correlational studies see if changes in 1 variable are accompanied by systematic changes in another variable. Experimental design manipulate 1 or more independent variable to observe effects on dependent variable(s) Field experiment experiment conducted in real life, naturalistic setting. Useful when conditions do not permit manipulation of variables. Can isolate cause and effect relationships, uses random assignment to avoid bias. Can isolate cause- and-effect relationships, behaviors observed in natural setting. Quasi-experiment assignment of subjects to groups determined by natural setting. Twin studies design compare mz (identical) or dz (fraternal) twins. Takes advantages of natural separation of subjects into groups.
