PSY 011 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Spaced, Tantrum, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Differential reinforcement differential reinforcement: the process of applying reinforcement to increase desirable behaviors and extinction to decrease undesirable behaviors. There are three main types of differential reinforcement: dra dro and drl. Used to increase the frequency of a desirable behavior and to decrease the frequency of undesirable behaviors. Dra can be used if the desirable behavior occurs at least occasionally. There must be a reinforcer that can be given after every occurrence that requires reinforcement. Pick the reinforcer that is currently spurring the undesired behavior and make it only available after the desired behavior. Observe the person and see what could possibly be good reinforcers or poor reinforcers. Ask the person directly or through questionnaires what they believe would be a good reinforcer for them. Steps: figure out what the desirable behavior is, figure out when the undesirable behavior is, determine a reinforcer, reinforce the desirable behavior right after it occurs and consistently reinforce it.
