PHI 014S Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Ontological Argument, A Priori And A Posteriori

56 views1 pages

Document Summary

When we think clearly about our concept of god, we will see that god must exist must exist. God= that than which greater can be conceived. (the greatest being imaginable) Cannot exist only in the mind because if it existed only in the mind then we could imagine a greater being. If that is possible, then we can imagine a being greater than the greatest being imaginable. You can"t really argue between an individual"s idea of something to the real existence of that thing. If this argument structure worked for the most perfect being imaginable, it would also work to show the existence of the most perfect island, which would be more perfect if they existed than if they did not. But it is ridiculous to think that we can prove the existence of the most perfect island merely because we can form an idea of this.
