Personal matter (can the court require the person to come in) Example 1: crime happened in new york, defendant and plaintiff are from new york. Doesn"t have to go to uzbekistan or new jersey no minimum contacts. Has to go to new york court. Uzbekistan has no personal jurisdiction over anybody that is a citizen or resident of. Uzbekistan, unless their court can show some legal reason why it should be able to drag somebody in same thing with new jersey. Minimum contacts: refers to a sufficient connection that the defendant has with the court jurisdiction, such that that court can require that defendant"s appearance. Sovereignty for the three of the states/country. Another example: person actually has actually property and business in nj = minimum.
