CRM 187R Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Black Feminist Thought, Mass Murder, White Privilege
Document Summary
Utilizing an intersectional theoretical approach, this article investigates the convergence of: white entitlement, middle class instability & downward mobility in the postindustrial economy, heterosexual masculinity & it"s relationship to violence. Mass murder- the federal bureau of investigation (fbi) defined mass murderer as someone who kills four or more people in a single incident (not including himself), typically in a single location. Rampage- a period of violent and uncontrollable behavior, typically involving a large group of people. Homocide- the deliberate and unlawful killing of one person by another; murder. What is the black feminist thought: mass murder is the only subset of homicide that can be considered a predominantly and even disproportionately white phenomenon. As such, white privilege and entitlement play a major contributing role in the phenomenon: whites commit mass murder in numbers disproportionately high relative to their share of the population.
