SPHR 2106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Endarterectomy, Antibody, Thrombosis
Document Summary
Cva:cerebrovascular accident, will cause immediate damage and damage beyond. Damage cost affect nerve cells around artery and stops blood flow to penumbra. Brain"s metabolic need: blood supplies 20% oxygen and glucose to brain. Circulatory interruption implications: infarct (interruption) immediate area (penumbra) Only takes 20 minutes surrounding the area to die. Collateral supply will survive up to 6-8 hours. Two main sources of blood to the brain: Basal artery and internal carotid artery form the circle of willis. Circle of willis is completed by joining branch basilar arteries. Circle of willis: vertebral artery form basilar artery. Circle of willis: posterior and anterior communicating artery, provides protection and contralateral circulation in case of damage to one side. Supply bloods to superior and medial sections of hemispheres. Circulatory interruption can cause: paralysis of legs and feet, frontal lobe damage, impairs thinking, reasoning planning. Circulatory interruption can cause: left hemisphere: damage to speech and language. Issues with direct motor system: primary motor cortex.
