Cedaw (convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women) Cedaw was adopted in 1979 by the un general assembly and was ratified by 189 states. Cedaw is a treaty that provides a global standard for protecting all rights of women. The seven states who have not yet ratified cedaw include: the united states, iran, somalia, south sudan, Vulnerabilities include all women who are or have the chance to be subjected to discrimination, especially women in poverty. The cedaw treaty consists of a preamble and thirty articles. Articles one through sixteen outline what governments should do to end discrimination against girls and women. Articles seventeen through twenty-two outline the establishment and function of the committee. Articles twenty-three through thirty outlines the implementation plan of the convention. The preamble paragraphs emphasizes equality for men and women. Universal declaration of human rights recognizes discrimination and proclaims all are born free and equal.
