Majority of people arriving at america from atlantic were african slaves: largest forced human migration in human history. Early portuguese expansion: began trading with west africa slaves, originally slaves were sent to mediterranean as household slaves, changed when america was discovered. When america was discovered, there were 3 strategies: transplant european societies to america (recreation of european societal structure across atlantic, employ native american labor, establishment of plantation society.
