Film censorship in usa: supreme court- mutual case of 1915 ruled that motion pictures did not have first amendment protection. Remained this way until 1952 (the miracle decision: movies from 1930-1968 were governed by a production code, 1922- motion picture producers & distribution associations formed. Hollywood"s production code: production code was a voluntary code of film content but mandatory for all members of motion. Notorious in its day because producer/director howard hughes concentrated on a female"s cleavage; which resulted in delaying the release of the film. History of cinema ii: the moon is blue (1953)- about a would-be actress that meets an architect, and despite meeting his wife and being wary of his intentions, he agrees to attend dinner at his apartment.
