Increase alliances through wife"s kin: age preferences. Depending on the time and the society, people make different decisions (or have differing capabilities) regarding when to have children. But there are some key similarities across societies: 1. Few women have children before their late teens, 2. Very few women have children after 40 even when they are trying. Reproductive value is maximum potential number of children a women could have now and in the future. What are chances of getting pregnant and giving birth now.
