Document Summary

Briefly, but thoroughly, answer each question below: define normal microbiota. Normal microbiota is the normal bacteria or microbes found regularly in the body. The species most commonly found within the mouth, throat, and skin are. Blood agar is used to grow streptococcus, mueller-hinton tellurite (mht) is used to grow. Corynebacterium/diphtheroid, and mannitol salt agar (msa) is used to grow. Describe the process of dental caries formation, include bacteria names. Dental caries form when someone has not brushed their teeth which leads to a gradual gathering of a biofilm of microbes. Lactobacillus acidophilus, streptococcus mutans, s. gordonii, s. salivarius, and actinomyces odontolyticus are the cariogenic biofilm of microbes which generate carbohydrates to lactic acid lowering the ph at the superficial area of the enamel. This causes the enamel to lose calcium which leads to cavities within the teeth. The enamel loses calcium at a ph of 5. 5 and will quickly grow faster at a ph of 4. 4.
