COMM 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Lebron James, Visual Rhetoric
Document Summary
Part 1: the quote is essentially trying to illustrate that when people read the same thing over and over again that is what becomes engrained in their mind. For example, using a sports example if people read about lebron james being a great basketball player over and over again then he will begin to symbolize greatness in people"s minds. One way, authors do this is by adding vivacity in their rhetoric. They do this by allowing the listener to feel like they can see the person or object in the mind and understand how significant it is. Authors create this image in the listener"s mind by using colorful and other descriptive language. With lebron the other can describe him through the man accomplishments he has had with words like true champion and exquisite passer. Ted talk the author describes how her roommate visualized africa as a place completely different than the world she grew up in.
