Inkling"s: a group of writers that would meet in a pub in oxford and share their work. They taught at oxford and met during the 1920-1945. They had in uenced all late 20th and early 21st century fantasy. Without them, no harry potter, no game of thrones, and no dungeons and dragons. Know the background of the author"s in order to understand it. War experience of lewis and tolkien make their battle scenes very realistic, both fought in the ww1 trenches and were injured. Tolkien also talks about industrialization, speci cally industrialization in order to prepare for war. Both have a sense of mission and tell stories that rely on their academic past. created a lively and appealing fantasy. The books were not well-received in the 40s and 50s. Tolkien operates in a roman catholic christian cosmos. Was married to the same woman for his whole life.
