The structure of covenant is built into the order of creation. At the core of judaism is a particular relationship between god and humanity, and the structure of that relationship already exists in genesis 1. All covenants consist of unconditional promises and laws. Unconditional promises: show that god is loving - god will keep these promises regardless of what the people do. Because god is loving, his people are able to follow confidently. The covenant relationship is the context for the meaning for following the law. God establishes covenantal relationships with different groups: noah, abraham, the. But the character of this relationship isn"t new. It reflects the relationship god had with the first humans in genesis 1. For paul (christianity), the covenant made with god after jesus died on the cross is a return to the covenant relationship that existed before the fall.
